Tremendous advances have been made in the past two decades in understanding the pathogenesis of
pulmonary hypertensive disorders. As a result, several novel therapies have been designed and are now
available to treat these previously uniformly fatal conditions. This course will provide clinicians
with state of the art information that will allow them to recognize and diagnose pulmonary hypertension
and become familiar with the effects of and indications for currently available therapies.
In addition, newer, investigational agents likely to be in use in the near future will be discussed.
Specific challenges related to certain types of pulmonary hypertension will be presented,
including connective tissue disorders, sickle cell anemia, left heart disease, congenital heart
lesions and underlying lung disease.
